Ah yes, Monsters of Rock. 1988. Philly JFK Stadium. Metallica, Kingdom Come, Dokken, Scorpions and VH. Couldn't hear worth a crap till Scorpions came on then VH.
Good show. Got burnt to a crisp. Had the farmer tan the rest of the summer. Good times.

Some friends of mine went to see Monsters of Rock in June '88 in Pittsburgh Three Rivers Stadium (MTV filmed there). I couldnt get out of work so I didnt go. They said Metallica actually got the loudest cheers! My buddies left halfway through VH's set --- bad combo of being exhausted from a really hot day in the sun plus listening to Sammy croon about aliens and Cabo Wabo --- not a good way to end a rock festival !!!

Could you imagine going to Monsters of Rock to see Metalica open for Van Halen. A scant few years earlier Van Halen was a fierce machine. Then they come out and play When Its Love. Talk about going soft!

Hiring a boring liquor salesman is the kiss of death ---- goofy, indeed.

Dave was right --- by 1985, Eddie and Alex were just happy being pampered rock stars and not staying hungry. They lost their edge. OU812 was a good example of how you can phone it in and collect the paycheck.

My fraternity had a gig manning the t-shirt stand at Tampa Stadium for Monsters of Rock. This included the OUgotaRefundToo set. We rotated out to see bands and I chose Metallica and the Scorps (who were awesome that day btw).

Dude, I don't usually like to inflict pain upon others, but if you want to see the OU812 concert from 1989 there's an entire performance on You Tube.
